THAPASYA STATE PRESIDENT (1975 - 1977 & 2012-13) 3 years

P. Balakrishnan, a distinguished poet, and senior journalist, made significant contributions to the literary and journalistic spheres throughout his illustrious career. His journey into the official arena began in 1971 when he joined Mathrubhumi newspaper as a trainee sub-editor. Over the years, he became an integral part of the Mathrubhumi Editorial Board, serving from 1973 until his retirement in June 2007. He ultimately held the position of Deputy Editor responsible for managing the Mathrubhumi Edit page.

In addition to his tenure at Mathrubhumi, Balakrishnan expanded his editorial roles by serving as the Managing Editor of Janmabhoomi newspaper and the Editor of 'Kshetra Shakti.' Beyond his editorial prowess, he played a pivotal role in cultural and literary organizations. In 1974, he was elected President of 'Sahitya Sayahnam,' a literary and cultural organization initiated by the 'Kozhikode Desiya Wadis,' which later transformed into 'Thapasya' in 1975-76. P. Balakrishnan was the first President of Thapasya and went on to serve in various capacities, including General Secretary, President, and State Patron.

His extensive involvement in journalism and cultural organizations showcases P. Balakrishnan's commitment to fostering intellectual and literary advancements. His multifaceted contributions have left a lasting impact on Kerala's journalistic and cultural landscape.
