Having earned post-graduate and BA degrees in English literature, he embarked on a teaching profession in 1956. His professional journey led him to the Central Secretariat Service in 1957 and the 'Kerala Bhasha Institute' from 1971 to 1975. Throughout his career, he held notable roles, including Editor in the Central Information Service, Guest Editor for 'Vishwavignanakosam' and 'Sarvavignanakosam' Institute, Vice-President of 'Sanskar Bharati, Agra,' and a State Patron of 'Thapasya.' P. Narayanakurup served in the Central Service until his retirement in 1986.

His literary contributions are extensive, with significant poetry collections such as 'Astramalyam,' 'Hamsadhwani,' 'Apoornathayude Soundaryam,' 'Naranathu Kavitha,' 'Kurumkavita,' 'Bhupalam,' 'Nishagandhi,' 'Ammathottam,' 'Samam Sangharsham,' 'Syamasundaran,' and 'Ayrkulamathi Venna.'
